Most people will think of ‘small production’ or ‘garagiste’ wines when you mention the words BOUTIQUE WINES, but what is it really that makes a wine “boutique”? Is it the mere fact that the winery produces only a certain number of bottles, or is it about quality, or even your perception? It can be argued that even a large producer can produce a “boutique styled” wine. You do still find winemakers of large wineries that are concerned, and do practise strict quality control, even if it is only for their “flagship” wine. These type of wines are made in smaller quantities and they also usually use 100% new oak and age in barrels for 12 months or more; these are the wines that make it interesting for us, as consumers and wine enthusiast, to seek out the Boutique styled wines. |
